Park & Recreation Meeting Minutes

The meeting was opened by Commissioner Jeanne Reed-Waldron at 6:30 pm. The next meeting of the Park and Recreation will April 5, 2017 at 6:30 pm.

There was no public comment.

Bills were reviewed and approved.  Minutes were reviewed and approved.  

JL Construction is requesting an extension.  The contract stated construction at the park will be completed by March 30, 2017.  They said due to the snow and the hold up on the bolts they were not able to meet the deadline.  The lights will be delivered on April 10, 2017.  We need to find out when they will be installed and what is the anticipated completion date?  The rental fee for the baseball and softball field is $50.  The use of lights will be an additional $150.  Soccer field rental is $150.  The lights will be an additional $150 fee.  We will need to purchase an L screen for the 90’ field.  The 7’ x 7’ foldable durable steel frame will fit in the shed for the teams to use.  Mike Massarelli motioned to purchase an Easton collapsible L screen; Dave DeiDolori seconded and the motion was approved.  We will need to purchase a batter’s box template also.  The board agreed to hire someone to line the fields.  Mike said he will show the person how.  

Cara spoke with Jeff McCollough about the concrete damage from tree roots.  Jeff suggested identifying the tree that is causing the root damage and consider preventing future cracking.  A contractor will need to be hired to fix damaged concrete and it will be costly.  The Friends of the Rail Trail and Dave cleaned up the tree down near Sam West Road.  The kiosk toward Westfield was severely vandalized.  The Friends Group will get back to us on replacement costs.  The plexi glass was ripped, shingles were pulled off and the wood frame was hit with a sledge hammer.  

Saturday April 8, 2017 at 11am at Whalley Park.  The P&R board will meet at the Town Hall at 9:30 to get the eggs and head to Whalley Park to set up for the party and put the Easter eggs out.  Cara has contacted the High School for volunteers.  At this time no one from the school has committed to volunteering.  

Mike Massarelli will go to Finance Committee meeting on March 27^th to request $2,500 of the unused well funds be used for a 8x8 cape style shed and minor equipment.  

8:00 pm Jeanne Reed-Waldron motioned to adjourn the meeting; Mike Massarelli seconded the motion. The meeting was called to a close.
