Board of Health Shared Services Coordinator (Updated 02/23/24)

Seeking a Board of Health Shared Services Coordinator, benefits eligible, 32 – 37.5 hours per week at $27 - $34 per hour to support the towns of Southwick, Blandford, Russell, Tolland, Granville, and Montgomery. The Health Departments are engaged in an innovative initiative to strengthen core local public health services, to promote healthier communities across the region. 

The Coordinator will be based in the Town of Southwick’s Health Department and will report to the Western Hampden County Public Health District Advisory Board, comprised of representatives from each participating municipality’s Health Department, Board of Health and/or Select Board. The Coordinator will work on a regional basis to ensure coordination, support and delivery of shared nursing, inspectional and epidemiological resources for the participating health departments and lead efforts to secure resources for ongoing work of the shared service initiative.

Required: Bachelor’s degree in public health, health administration, social work, or related field with experience. Must complete Foundations for Local Public Health Practice course within one (1) year of hire. Strongly Prefer: At least 2 years professional experience in public health.

Park & Recreation Commission
Groundskeeper and Maintenance 

The Town is seeking interested candidates for the position of Groundskeeper and Maintenance Personnel for the Park & Recreation Commission. The position requires providing routine maintenance of recreational facilities and grounds, minor repairs, mowing, mulching and field readiness on a daily, or as needed, basis and includes various custodial duties. Requirements: valid driver’s license.  Preferred qualifications:  High School diploma or equivalent; two to three years of experience operating and maintaining lawn equipment.  Approximately 20 hours per week, may require some weekend hours.  Employment application can be obtained at www.southwickma.org/application. Assistant Animal Control Officer (Added 1/19/24)

The Town of Southwick is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant to the Animal Control Officer, 15 hours per week, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 8 A.M. -1 P.M., in addition to On-Call availability as necessary, to perform highly responsible work in the enforcement of local and State ordinances, regulations and statutes pertaining to municipal animal control activities.

The position requires a High School diploma or equivalency, plus 2 years of experience as an animal care worker in a kennel, animal control facility, veterinary hospital, or boarding facility. Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’ s License and must be able to be on site within a 30-minute period when responding to all calls from the Southwick Police Department.  

Wage: $18.00 per hour 

After hour Call-Out: $30 per request

Part - Time Board Secretary (Added 8/18/23)


The Town of Southwick is seeking candidates for a Part-time Clerk/Secretary 18 hours per week to support four town Boards/Committees. The position requires working 1-2 evenings per week and the remainder of the hours are daytime. The pay rate for FY 24 is $18.00 per hour. Prefer three or more years previous experience as a secretary, clerk, or bookkeeper; strong customer service, organizational and word processing skills; ability to schedule in-person and remote hybrid public meetings and support functions on Zoom platform is required.

Per Diem Paramedic

The Town of Southwick Fire Department is accepting applications for per diem Paramedic positions. Requirements: HS diploma or equivalent, valid MA driver’s license, possess and maintain Massachusetts Paramedic certification, active 911 Paramedic experience preferred.

Finalist will be required to complete a medical examination/drug screening CORI, an extensive background check, and other assessments as deemed necessary.
