Canal Restoration Subcommittee Meeting Minutes

1.      The meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM
2.      Steve made a motion to accept the minutes from the meeting held on December 8, 2016.  Dick seconded the motion and all were in favor of the motion passing.  
3.      Reviewed actions from the last meetings:
  • Funding –  Dick reported he scheduled a meeting with Don Humasen and Nick Boldaga.  Dick and Mike D. will be attending this meeting as well. We will be looking for $850K in state funding for the dredging project. They are still thinking of a multi town Pact for dredging equipment.
  • CPC Funding – Eric reported he did not proceed with CPC grant writing base on the CPC support for the North pond Land issue. He stated he would work with Ken to see what could be put together.
  • New Business
  • S319 -Trump squashed the EPA budget we need to keep pushing forward.  We don't expect to hear anything soon.
  • Rick made a motion stating that we are intending on applying for a CPC grant.  The motion was seconded by Eric and all were in favor of the motion passing.
  • The beaver damn was removed from the canal, this morning.
  • Town of Suffield worked together with the Town of Southwick to clear away some boulders and stones at the culvert. We thank you gentleman for giving us better access! Suffield has also budgeted $20K to the lakes from their 2016 and 2017 town budget!
4.      Actions
  • Eric is going to put together an estimate for design and permitting.
  • Sue/Dick are going to find out from Ruth Preston 1. Has the grant application changed?  2. If it hasn't changed, can we use old application?  3. When and where is the next CPC meeting?
5.      Our next Canal meeting is April 27, 2017
6.      Ken made a motion to adjourn. Dick seconded and all were in favor.  The meeting was adjourned at 6:45PM.
