Report of the Sewer Implementation Committee 2008

The Town of Southwick owns 500,000 gallons per day capacity at the Westfield Sewage treatment facility by an inter-municipal agreement.  However, we are currently limited to only 175,000 gallons per day as our effluent discharges into an existing, in use, 12” pipe in Westfield. The original 12” pipe connection was done to get the current system in operation as the easiest method practicable.

Southwick is now at a point where an expansion is desirable to include areas around North Pond not currently serviced, the schools, Pineywood-Bircwood area, Congamond Road, and a few other areas as well. Unfortunately, no expansion can occur until a “parallel” interceptor pipe is installed to eliminate the current limitations of the 12” pipe.

Members of the Sewer Implementation Committee are currently working to start proceedings as part of a Phase II program to extend the existing 21” line approximately 3,500 feet directly to the Westfield Treatment Plant. Once the connection is completed, the entire 500,000 gallons per day will be available and future expansion can begin.

Respectfully submitted,
