Report of the Economic Development Committee

The EDC meets on the second Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in Conference Room One in Town Hall. It is made up of eight unpaid volunteers appointed by the Board of Selectmen.  The EDC page on the Town website can be accessed here or the website can be accessed at www.southwickma.info
 

In April 2009 the EDC organized a public meeting for the local business community in the Town Hall Auditorium with representation from town Boards, Commissions and Departments and elected officials. The public and local businesses had an opportunity to find out what each board, commission, department, etc. does as well as had an opportunity to speak one-on-one with appropriate officials.
 

The EDC website provides “links” to town businesses that have websites. Information on state highway projects impacting local residents and businesses was gathered (10/202 and 57). Members attended Board of Selectmen and Planning Board meetings to support sewer extension to service the commercial and industrial areas in Town.
 

The EDC has continued to support the growth of compatible business in town. A new “Welcome to Southwick” sign was installed. In 2010 the EDC will continue efforts with the Planning Board to improve the local sign bylaws. We plan on having a listing of new businesses in town to expand on the information already on the website. The website provides information and “links” to business related information and additional features will be added in 2010.
