Report of the Cemetery Commission 2008

The Town’s cemetery again proved to be an affordable and attractive option to our town’s residents.

Our staff of five, Roy Benson, Diane Mason, Sharon Horacek, Victoria Hickey, Secretary, under the direction of Sextant, Bud Phillips kept continual care of the grounds, shrubs, and flowers during the course of 2008 including plowing walkways during the winter season. Care of the old cemetery went on as usual including miscellaneous repairs that are required on much older family plots.

The cemetery management program to input information of purchase and sales of grave lots is up and running smoothly.

We would like to thank the Historical Commission once again for their endeavors regarding the floral plantings at the steps of the old cemetery. We would also like to thank Keith Roy Builders for the donation of shingles to help in the maintenance of the historical building in the old cemetery and Granfield Tree Service for removal of dead trees.

Once again, the Cemetery Commissioners have received many compliments on the appearance and atmosphere of both the old and new cemeteries. This could not happen without the diligent work of our cemetery caretakers which we appreciate. We hope all who have spent a few moments at either cemetery share a sense of comfort and peace.

Comments and suggestions from the residents of Southwick are always appreciated.

Respectfully submitted,

Roy Benson, Chairman
Diane Mason, Commissioner
Sharon Horacek, Commissioner
