Report of the Board of Assessors 2008

The Board of Assessors would first and foremost like to recognize the accomplishments and professionalism of the office staff. Technical Assistants Doris Seymour, and Sue Gore and Victoria Hickey are continually raising the standards of support to our town boards and residents under the capable leadership of the Director of Assessments Mr. John R. Clegg.
 
Fiscal Year 2009, the total value for the Town of Southwick was $1,035,237,297.00. This represents a town wide value increase of $15,510,059.00.
 
A classification hearing was held, and the Board of Selectmen decided that the Town would have one tax rate for Residential, Commercial, Industrial and Personal Property. The tax rate for Fiscal Year 2009 was set at $12.55 or an increase of 2.8%.
 
The Fiscal Year 2009 Tax Rate was approved by the Bureau of Accounts of the Department of Revenue on November 19, 2008. The process of arriving at a tax rate by the Board of Assessors requires the support of several departments. The Board of Assessors would like to recognize those departments for their input and support during that process. They include the Clerks, Collectors, Treasurers, Accounting and Selectmen’s Offices.
 
The Board of Assessors will continue to represent the citizens of the Town of Southwick and will strive to do it’s very best to treat all citizens fairly and equitably during its tenure.
