Park & Recreation Meeting Minutes

The meeting was opened by Commissioner Patrick Roche at 6:30 pm. The next meeting of the Park and Recreation will August 24, 2016 at 6:30pm.

Davith Ou owns the Body Fit on College Highway.  He is interested in softball at Whalley Park.  He would be willing to join an existing team or form his own.  He will contact the existing softball league and decide whether he will form his own team or join an existing one.

Bills were reviewed and approved.  Minutes were reviewed and approved.  

Karl Stinehart would like to use the money left over from the well project to complete the concrete work at the park.  John said there was a new sprinkler zone put in between the fence and the road.  Pat, John and two volunteers installed two benches in at the ball fields.  It took 3.5 hours to install.  They would like to get the rest in before fall soccer starts.  There are eight more to install.  They are looking for volunteers.  Pat and John met with Jon Goddard of R.Levesque Associates and Karl Stinehart about the bid package.  They will put package together and get out to bid by the end of the month.  Fire Department is going to use the back fields for Rope Rescue Training.  Mike Vinsett used the fields for the Southwick Sizzler.  Next year they will need to empty trash and check the bathrooms.  The trash was overflowing and the bathrooms were left in bad shape.  The Rec Center is using the T-Ball fields.  The players pay the Rec center to play.  Going forward the Rec Center will need to give P&R a schedule and pay for the field use.  Mike will contact JB to tell him.  

Review e-mail from Dick Grannells.  There is a new tractor crossing from the fields on the rail trail North of Feeding Hills Road.  Whoever put it in did not put blacktop aprons on the sides.  The tractors come directly from the dirt onto the rail trail.  This is damaging the edges of the rail trail.  They would like to address this before the problem gets bigger.  Pat and John will go out and take a look at this area.  

John Westcott has been working on the park the month of August.  He has installed the benches.  He is spreading the playground mulch.  

Senior Picnic is scheduled for August 17^th.  

There was no new business.

7:45pm Mike Massarelli motioned to adjourn the meeting; David DeiDolori seconded the motion. The meeting was called to a close.
