Park & Recreation Meeting Minutes

Members in Attendance:

The meeting was opened by Commissioner Patrick Roche at 6:30 pm. The next meeting of the Park and Recreation will December 28, 2016 at 6:30pm.

There was no public comment

Bills were reviewed and approved.  Minutes were reviewed and approved.  

Brian Alves would like to use the 90’ filed for 14U fall & spring baseball.  He would like to use the fields April 2 through June 18, 2017.  In the fall he will have 12 teams and would like use of the field on Saturdays and Sundays from August through October.  He will take care of the infield, dirt etc.  He would like to maintain fields to offset some of the fees.  He will line the field as needed, grate the dirt and scrape the infield.  He is fully insured.  The board will discuss pricing and get back to him.

Stacy Smith would like to hold a spring softball league like the current fall league.  They want to use the 60’ field from April to June at approximately 11am-2pm.  

Spring 2017 Frank Montagna would like the high school team to play more home varsity baseball games at Whalley Park.  Pat stated they would be responsible for lining the fields and prepping the fields and post game rake out of the fields.  They would need to collect for parking each month they use the lights to cover the $1,000 Eversource Electric bill.  

 

Brooks of the Friends Group went in canal to get the trash barrel cover out.

Friday December 9, 2016 from 6-8pm.  Santa will be giving out gifts to all the children that visit him.  

Discuss budget with Art Pinell for next fiscal year.  Include items: playground mulch, lawn care, supplies, truck, sprinkler maintenance, trailer, electric bill, 60” mower, two part time employees to maintain Whalley Park property.  Bob from maintenance requested we add winterizing the town beach and Whalley Park.

Request from Avery & Jason Couture to hold a weekly cross fit class/seminar in order to motivate and inspire children to live a healthy, fit lifestyle.  The class will include exercise and education.  John motioned to approve Avery & Jason Couture cross fit class; Mike Massarelli seconded and the motion was approved.

7:50 pm  John Whalley motioned to adjourn the meeting; Jeanne Reed-Waldron seconded the motion. The meeting was called to a close.
