Minutes June 14, 2016
Present:  Diane Caruso (Director), Nancy Zdun, Carol Geryk, Michael McMahon, Tracy Meczywor, Suzanne Davis and
Tammy Ciak-Bissaillon
 
The regular meeting of the Southwick Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order at 7:05 PM on
June 14, 2016 in the Community Room.
 
Public Comment – no public comment
 
Communication
  • Diane received the C/W Mars annual agreement.   This is not a contract, but a document Diane needs to sign.
  • The Friends of the Library will be holding their Craft Fair on Oct 15 at the Town Hall.
  • Denise Griffin ran her painting fundraiser and the library received $40.00.  Her next class wit be 6/24 at 10am.
  • Diane attended the Shurtleff annual meeting.  She set up a table with a display of how the grant monies from Shurtleff have helped the library community.
  • Paul McKenna attended the Sarah Gillete Services for the Elderly meeting with the library’s display.
  • Irene and Diane will be attending a workshop to learn about the ARIS form.  This form is now required by MBLC.
  • The library needs to develop a policy on self-published books.  After a discussion, the trustees would prefer an “Author Day”, with a group of local writers to discuss their books with the public.
Meeting Minutes
  • A motion to accept the minutes (with corrections) of the May 33, 2016 meeting was made by Suzanne.  Carol seconded the motion and the minutes were accepted.

Old Business
  • The town received responses to the RFP requests for work to replace the sprinkler system.  The bids ranged between $78,000 and $118,000.  The low bid didnt included all the work required.   A letter to the selected/winning contractor will be sent 6/8.  The contractor can start work after 7/3.  There will be a pre-construction meeting the week of 6/24 to determine how long the library will be closed to the public.  While the library is closed, a table will be placed between the front 2 sets of doors, for patrons to pick up and drop off books.
  • All July programs will be held in the Town Hall.
New Business
  • The kick off of the Summer reading program will happen on 6/25 at the library from 10am – 1pm.  There will be miniature golf, face painting and a photo booth.
  • The trustees agreed to a motion to allow the library to close on Saturdays after the July 4th holiday through Sept 3th.  The library will reopen on Saturdays on 9/10/2016
