Library Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes

Present:  Diane Caruso (Director), Nancy Zdun, Carol Geryk, Michael McMahon, Tracy Meczywor and Suzanne Davis

The regular meeting of the Southwick Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order at 7:00 PM on
April 12, 2016 in the Community Room.

 

Public Comment – no public comment

 

Communication
  • Diane received the 2nd half of the state grant monies - $6,222.19.
  • Diane received a check for $5,800.00.   This money was from the MBLC which was procured by State Senator Don Humason.
  • Diane discussed the changes to the MBLC’s State Aid formulas.
  • Diane received a Thank You note, along with a donation of $20.00.  This was due to the condition of a potentially damaged book.
  • The Home Delivery Driver application has been approved.   2 people have completed apps to receive books and 6-7 people have volunteered to drive.
  • On April 7th, Denise Griffin gave the 1st of 2 water painting class.   The 2nd class will be held on April 14th.   The program was funded by the Sarah Gillette grant.   Denise has offered to give the class on an ongoing basis.  She will charge $15.00 per class, $5.00 will be a donation to the library.  The classes will be held on Fridays.  The trustees agreed the ongoing classes are a good idea.
  • Sally Killips will be holding a “Hack It Back” class on pruning on April 20th.
  • The Art Bot program (funded by Shurtleff) will be held on April 19th for 3rd-6th graders.
  • Diane will be meeting with the Sarah Gillette board on April 14th to discuss her grant request.
Meeting Minutes
  • A motion to accept the minutes (with corrections) of the Oct 6, 2014 meeting was made by Nancy.  Carol seconded the motion and the minutes were accepted.
  • A motion to accept the minutes (with corrections) of the March 8, 2016 meeting was made by Mike.  Carol seconded the motion and the minutes were accepted.

Notes:  2015 – 3/20 opened at 2 PM due to compressor down, gifts included $75.00 for Summer Reading Program and $17.00 in memorials
2016 gifts include the $5800.00 procured by State Senator Don Humason, $500.89 from the Friends and a $20.00 donation.   On March 30th, the Internet went down at 4PM
                                                           
Old business
  • The repaving of the driveway should be finished by the end of April
  • The new RFP for the sprinkler system, as of last week, hadn’t gone out.
  • John and his team will remove the insulation to reduce the cost of the new sprinkler system.
  • 70 Patron Survey Forms have been received by Diane
  • At the March Special Town Meeting, raises for the part time staff were approved.
New business
  • The results of the Patron Survey Forms were discussed.
