1. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 P.M.

2. Steve Schmid noted Eric Mueller’s name was spelled incorrectly in #5 of the 2/25/16 meeting notes.  Malcolm made a motion to accept the minutes from the meeting held on February 25, 2016, with noted correction.  Steve seconded the motion and all were in favor.  Motion passed.

3. Reviewed actions from the last meetings:
  • Environmental Bond Funding – Dick reported he had discussions with Nicholas Boldyga, that both Boldyga’s and Humason’s offices are working toward a multi- town dredging project where the equipment will be shared between towns with projects in Western Mass. They hope to combine the projects to share resources. Dick will update us as more info becomes available.
  • CPC Funding – Eric reported that Ken Wagner’s report is available.  All members were given a copy. The report may get some final editing. This will be the basis for the CPC grant application that will start after next month and the publication of the report. Eric will talk to Dick on writing of the application.
  • Dick reported he is still working with the towns of Suffield and Granby on canal dredging south of the town line to ensure flow. He will update the committee as talk progresses.
  • Dick reported the selectmen approved Eric Mueller as Vice-Chair and Rick Wylot as a voting member of the canal committee.
4. New Business:
  • Deb Herath reported the first selectwoman of Suffield wants to open the beach area of Babb’s Beach to drum up support for the whole project at Babb’s. The committee stated they support her efforts and hope it works. Deb asked about the rules for dredging weeds out of the swimming area. The committee stated using equipment would take state permitting and get expensive.  Residents rake leaves and weeds by hand which does not need permitting. That would be a more effective way to clean out a swimming area.
5. Actions:
  • Eric Mueller getting Ken Wagner’s input to write a CPC Grant Application to present to the Board of Selectmen for restoring the Canal.
  • Dick update on state funding
  • Dick update on Suffield /Granby dredging
6. Our next Canal meeting is April 28, 2016.

7. Malcolm made a motion to adjourn. Deb seconded and all were in favor.  The meeting was adjourned at 7:00P.M.

Respectfully submitted,
