COA Meeting Minutes

New Business:
 
Update from COA Director:  
  • Dementia training will be held Friday, April 14, 2017, all COA staff will participate.  Donna, Carol, and Paula volunteered to answer phones and man desks.
  • Cultural Council Grant will be used for David Bates, a Folk Singer for $400.00, presentation is April 19, 2017 at 12:30 PM
  • St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast was replaced by a Spring Breakfast to be held Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 8:30 AM.   Thank you, Mary Alice for getting the sausage.
  • Brain Healthy Cooking Program will be presented Wednesday, April 26, 2017 by Armbrook Village.  Lunch will be provided free.  About 30 people have signed up.
  • A Senior Center Video is being created to let all know the happenings at the Center.  A motion was made by Herb, seconded by Paula to allow COA Director Cindy to purchase a device (monitor) to display the video.  Motion carried unanimously.  Much discussion followed including where the monitor should be placed and how to pay for it.  More information will be forthcoming.
  • Senior Citizens Tax-Work Off Program is still being created.  There will be a warrant at the upcoming Town Meeting to approve. If approved 10 people may qualify to earn $1,500.00 by working 132 hours for different Town Departments.  More information to come.
  • Something different this year to reward volunteers - a Brunch instead of a Lunch.  Again to be Held at Tucker’s, on May 24, 2017 at 10:30 AM.
  • Community GrandFriends Day to be held Friday, April 21, 2017 from 9:30-11:30 AM.  Youth volunteers will help our Seniors navigate technology. This is a great intergenerational activity!
  • The Luau will be held on June 21, 2017.  More information to follow.
Update on:
 
  • Classes - Going very well, numbers up.  A new Yoga Dance class was introduced, very well received.
  • Transportation - Good.  The Police Department will now have a Van key, in case it needs to be moved when Center is closed.
  • Dining Center - Very pleased with Denise’s work, numbers up, 2 choices now provide an option. New Coffee Station being discussed
  • Brown Bag - Everyone called, reminded to come in.  Chester Olson brings extra food to the local food pantry each Wednesday.
  • Finances - Good
Old Business:
  • Handicapped Doors will be installed now, safety issues
  • Shelving in closets completed
  • Ad about Southwick Senior Center in Newspaper came out great.
  • The Cooking class held at the Southwick Senior Center was mentioned in the Newsletter sent out by Westfield Technical Academy
  • Denise sent a Thank you for the Fruit Basket sent
Paula made the Motion to adjourn, Herb seconded, motion carried unanimously.  Meeting adjourned at 10:50AM.
