Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service

The Town of Southwick Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES), under the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) jurisdiction and the Federal Communications Commission regulations, reports to the Emergency Management Director and is an important function of the emergency operations center communications.
 

Southwick RACES members are FCC licensed radio amateur operators appointed by Southwick’s local government. The members provide emergency communications linking the Southwick Emergency Operations Center to adjacent local community governments and to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency Region III Headquarters in Agawam and to the State Headquarters in Framingham during times of emergency crisis and disaster.
