The scheduled meeting of the Cemetery Commission was opened at 9:03 a.m. by Roy Benson.
Routine Business -
- Payables were signed.
- The minutes were read for the meeting of April 20, 2010. Diane made A MOTION to accept the minutes, seconded by Sharon (vote-unanimous).
Old Business -
- Bud informed the Commission that the Boy Scouts will be painting the fence in the old cemetery in the fall. The paint will be purchased by the Commission. An Eagle Scout will be contacted concerning removal of the junipers and pavers that is surrounding the flag pole in the new cemetery.
- Bud has contacted TJ Bark Mulch and Great Brook Lumber for the price of bark mulch that is needed for the upkeep of the cemetery. Great Brook Lumber gave a quote of $22 yard and TJ Bark Mulch gave a quote of $30 yard. Diane made A MOTION to go with Great Brook Lumber, seconded by Sharon (vote-unanimous). Pete Jakobowski gave a quote of $8 yard for loam. Diane made A MOTION to go with Pete Jakobowski for the loam, seconded by Sharon (vote-unanimous).
New Business -
- After much discussion concerning the price increase of opening and closing of graves, Diane made A MOTION for the price increase of $100, effective August 1st, 2010, seconded by Sharon (vote-unanimous). A recommendation will be sent to the Board of Selectmen. Once the recommendation is approved a press release will be sent to the citizens, political parties, Town Clerk, area newspapers and local funeral homes stating the price increase with the effective date.
- After much discussion the Commission has determined that there will be a price increase for the purchase of a cemetery lot. The price increase will be $50. Diane made A MOTION, seconded by Sharon (vote-unanimous) to approve $175 for land and $225 for perpetual care to go into effect August 1st, 2010. A recommendation will be sent to the Board of Selectmen. Once the recommendation is approved a press release will be
- sent to the citizens, political parties, Town Clerk, area newspapers and local funeral homes stating the price increase with the effective date. There has not been a price increase for cemetery plots since 2001.
- Bud has informed the Commission that Pete Jakobowski will be his replacement when he is on vacation. Other times the Commission will take care of the handling of matters when they arise.
- At future meetings the Commission will be updating the cemetery log books on an ongoing basis.
- The next meeting will be July 6, 2010.
No other business. Diane made A MOTION to adjourn the meeting at 9:44 a.m., seconded by Sharon (vote-unanimous).
