New Business:

Update from COA Director:
  • Volunteer Brunch will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Tucker’s Restaurant at 10:30. Much discussion followed about volunteer hours. The state requires 20 hours of service to qualify for reimbursement. Last year, we (the Board) voted to accept 15 hours to qualify for our volunteer reward. Several volunteers did not meet the 20 hour nor 15 hour requirement for various reasons. A motion was made by Paula, seconded by Roy to allow payment for some volunteers to attend the Rewards Brunch this year through the Gift Program at COA Director Cindy’s discretion. The motion carried unanimously. Another motion was made by Paula and seconded by Rebecca, starting this year, May 1, 2017, that 20 hours will be required by all volunteers to qualify for our volunteer reward, no exceptions. The motion carried unanimously. Discussion continued about the possibility of changing the location for the Volunteer Gathering next year, perhaps at a lower cost. Gifts will be presented this year. Cindy will check to see if our Senior Center video (about 15 minutes) which will be displayed at the Senior Center, can be presented during the Brunch.
  • The Luau will be held on June 21, 2017, from 11:00-1:00 at the Senior Center. Professional Hawaiian Dancers will perform. The cost is $5.00. Food will be served. Prizes will be awarded. The Senior Center received a donation to help defray the cost. With this payment came a promise for another performance, perhaps at this year’s Christmas Gathering.
  • The new Pen Pals and Reading Programs, collaboration with the Southwick Schools, went really well. An end of the school year party is planned for the Reading Program. The Pen Pals Program is planning an end of the year celebration, perhaps with a student performance. Both will continue next year with a little revision.
  • Town Meeting will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Regional School. Cindy will speak about the Tax Work-Off Program. If approved, work will begin to implement.
Update on:

Classes - Going very well. A new Yoga Dance class was introduced, it will continue on Friday, May12th, with a free class, then at $5.00 per class. Cindy suggested painting the exercise room. A motion was made by Roy, seconded by Paula to use extra class money, which is available, to paint the exercise room. Motion carried unanimously.

Transportation - There will be a new Hulmes driver. Right now, substitutes are being used.

Dining Center - Meals on Wheels decreasing. Discussion followed about many restrictions. To provide money for this program, the SHINE coordinator’s hours will be cut by 2 hours per week beginning July 1, 2017.

Brown Bag - Everyone called, reminded to come in, more people are coming in. Extra food is brought to the local food pantry.

Finances - Good
