Park & Recreation Meeting Minutes

The regularly scheduled August 5, 2008, meeting was opened at 6:30PM by Chairman, Kelly Magni.
Bills were signed and previous meeting minutes accepted.
Rob Levesque presented a conceptual plan for Whalley Park. Discussion regarding the layout of the park followed:
Site of the park is on Powdermill Rd
Developing approximately 35 acres
Road access will be either through the moto-cross or rec center
Plan is to have 3 baseball fields, a t-ball field, 3 soccer fields, band shell, etc.
May incorporate a wetland walk for town use
Rec center will be responsible for maintenance of fields and schedules
Rob suggested that Park & Rec contact the director of Stanley Park for suggestions
Two motions were made and the vote was unanimous.
1. The Southwick Park & Recreation Commissioners support the Whalley Park project and support potential stewardship of same.
2. Based on the current conceptual plan produced for Whalley Park, no fees will be charged to people entering the park. Seconded by S. Grabowski
Letters with these motions will be forwarded to Karl Stinehart.
The Rotary Club asked permission to use the town beach on August 13 for their annual summer picnic and this was ok’d by the commissioners.
Judy was asked to send a letter to Lenore Anderson and Emily Tampone to thank them for the donation of $404 that was raised by Woodland Elementary through a lemonade stand. This money will be “ear marked” for a bench for Rails to Trails.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:00pm.
