MINUTES
SEWER IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE
April 08, 2008

OPENING: The special meeting of the Sewer Implementation Committee opened at 7:00 p.m. The following members were in attendance:
Nicholas Daniele, Chairman
J. Pat Ayotte, Vice Chairman
Freda Brown
Brian Pranka

Mr. Jeff Neece, DPW Director, and Mr. Ron Michalski, Tighe & Bond, were also in attendance.

MINUTES

Ms. Brown made a motion to accept the minutes of 04/01/08.  Mr. Pranka seconded the motion and the vote of the Committee was unanimous in favor.

DISCUSSION

1.      Mr. Daniele and Mr. Ayotte met with Mr. Tom FitzGerald, Health Agent, to discuss the next phase of the public sewer system.  Mr. FitzGerald was under the impression that the areas to be sewered were based on failed septic systems.  Some of the areas discussed were Hudson Drive, which does have good soils and could increase potential businesses, and the area around Big Y.

2.      Mr. Michalski presented a revised map showing the areas discussed at the previous meeting and a revised cost estimate.  The actual length of pipe could not be determined until actual design plans were complete.  The average cost of an individual connection was estimated at $3,700.00.  Actual costs would be determined by the topography of the property and the distance to the main sewer line.

3.      The Committee members also discussed how EDU’s would relate to vacant property.  The project will need to be palatable to the public.  The Committee will work on the possibility of purchasing grinder pumps through grants to have more conformity in the system in the event the Town does decide not to do individual connections.  The Committee members will make a recommendation with the final decision made by the Board of Selectmen acting as Sewer Commissioners.  Public meeting will be scheduled to inform the residents of where the next phase could be installed.

As there was no further business to discuss, Mr. Ayotte made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:30 p.m.  Mr. Pranka seconded the motion and the vote of the Committee was unanimous in favor.

Respectfully submitted,

Jean Nilsson, Secretary
