1.      Malcolm made a motion to accept the minutes from the December 8, 2011 meeting.  Ken seconded the motion and all were in favor to accept the minutes as written.

2.      The December 22nd meeting was cancelled due to many members already being away for the holidays

3.      Members discussed the causes and impacts of the current relatively high lake level and the recent cleanup of debris accumulated at the level control structure.  The discussions then migrated to the restoration of the canal, the work limits and estimated costs of such a project.  Dick estimated the cost to be in the range of $500K per mile to $1M per mile, depending on accessibility and permitted methods employed for restoration.  Costs will be lower if a “dry-dredging” method can be used, especially on the ~1 mile section between the structures in Southwick, through the Suffield section to at least the Hungary Road culvert in Granby, Connecticut.  Dick estimated that the design and permitting costs could range from $50K to $100K, depending on length and project complexity.  Jerry explained that there was a meeting of a group of concerned residents, including CRC and LMC members, to discuss developing a long-range plan to address the lake level and interrelated water quality issues.  A letter from the group to the Suffield and Southwick Selectmen summarizing their recommendations has been drafted and is being finalized.  They plan to finalize the letter and mail it early next week.

4.      Dick presented copies of the BOS approved pay rates for CY2012 Ramp Attendants and Supervisor which represent no increase from the CY2011 pay rates.

5.      Dick noted that there may be a need for a “fill-in” Ramp Attendant due to last year’s fill-in attendant having a new full-time job.

6.      Malcolm made a motion to adjourn, Chris seconded all were in favor.

7.      The next scheduled meeting is January 26, 2012.

8.      The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,
