The officers, as well as the Chief of Police, are appointed officials of Southwick for a term of one year. Counting the chief, there are sixteen officers currently on Southwick’s payroll. As of July 2001, Southwick Police Department began a K-9 patrol, headed up by Officer Joe Brewer and Officer Thom. Officer Thom is a long haired German Shepard from Czechoslovakia who is now retired. Southwick's current K-9 patrol is Officer Thomas Krutka and Officer Jax, a Belgian Malinois Shepard. Krutka and Jax has been a team since June of 2007.
As well as the regular patrolmen, Southwick adds to its compliment fourteen reserve officers, which are also appointed by the selectmen on an annual basis. The reserves assist SPD when extra help is needed for patrolling and traffic control.
