LIBRARY'S 5 YEAR PLAN
Southwick Public Library personnel consist of a full-time Director/Librarian, a full-time Assistant Director/Librarian, and eight part-time librarians including Reference, Children and Circulation experts.
Mission Statement
The Southwick Public Library provides: resources to help satisfy people’s desire for recreational experiences; materials that supplement the resources of the schools for grades K-12 and programs for preschool children; information on community events and organizations; an accessible, comfortable, friendly environment where people of all ages and abilities can meet and interact on a variety of levels.
Operation
Southwick Public Library is open to Massachusetts and Connecticut residents. It boasts 12,000 sq. feet and houses an Adult Library, a Children’s Library, a Community Room, Restrooms and a Staff Room. Adult and Children’s, including YA (young adult) programs are offered on a regular basis. The Summer Reading Program routinely involves over 400 area children and provides summertime activities around a central theme. Children are given the opportunity to earn
prizes of all sorts based on the amount of reading they accomplish during the program. Other programming during the year involves the Southwick Public Schools and outreach efforts to the various pre-school programs in Southwick and surrounding areas. These programs are free and open to the public.
Persons over 18 may readily obtain a Library card with the proper identification. Minors, younger than 18, need a parent or legal guardian’s signature before a card can be issued. This is the only difference between an adult and minor’s library card as minors are free to take out materials from any part of the Library. Fees are assessed when items are returned after the time frame set at the time of checkout. Also, should an item have an accident or become lost, patrons will be charged the price of the item, plus a $5.00 processing fee. Items may be returned in the drop boxes located at the Library’s entrance when the Library is not open. Materials returned after closing on the date due are overdue.
