Monday Nights
The Fire Department is a volunteer department overseen by the Board of Fire Commissioners. The Fire Commissioners are appointed yearly by the Selectmen and all members of the Fire Department are appointed yearly by the Fire Commissioners.
The Fire Department personnel consist of a Fire Chief, a Deputy Chief, two Captains, five Lieutenants, an EMS Officer, 22 firefighters, ten firefighter/EMTs, ten EMTs, two photographers, a vehicle maintenance support person, a computer support person and a full time secretary.
The Fire Department does not charge for open burning permits, but a permit must be obtained for each day that you burn. Open burning is allowed, depending on current weather conditions, from January 15th through April 30th. Permits can be obtained at the Fire Department Office, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until Noon. On weekends and holidays permits can be obtained from the dispatch area at the Police Station.
All fires must be extinguished by 4:00 p.m.
