The Accounting Office personnel consist of a full-time Town Accountant, a full-time Assistant Town Accountant, and one full-time Accounting Clerk and one part-time Accounting Clerk. The Town Accountant is appointed by the Board of Selectmen for a term of three years.
The Accounting Office handles the bills and payroll submitted by all Town Departments. Bills and payrolls paid in Fiscal Year 2010 totaled almost $23,000,000.00. The Accounting Office also creates and disperses all Purchase Orders. In Fiscal Year 2010 almost 3,000 purchases orders were processed.
As in any business, every penny spent and received must be kept track of. The Accounting Office is in charge of keeping the books for Town Government, the Water Department, and all other revenue and expenditure sources.
The Town employs an average of 210 full- and part-time employees. The Accounting Office maintains the employment records for each individual, whether full or part-time, and processes payroll on a bi-weekly basis.
Another responsibility of the Accounting Office is to handle all computer issues. All ordering, purchasing, repairing (in-house or through a maintenance company), and replacing of computer equipment is handled here.
