The Highway Division is located behind the Police Department on Depot Street and maintains all roads in Southwick, whether paved or not. The list of responsibilities and services that the highway staff perform on a daily basis can sometimes be long, especially during winter months. This is a partial sampling of the daily services provided:
A. Answering emergency calls for automobile accidents and oil spills, trees down, flooding, washouts, and road icing.
B. Cutting trees and limbs that have been damaged by wind.
C. Raising catch basins to newly paved road surfaces.
D. Rebuilding of collapsing catch basins.
E. Roadside mowing.
F. Clean-up of roadside areas and removing materials dumped in those areas.
G. Rebuilding of waterways.
H. Replacing damaged or vandalized road signs and street signs.
I. Clean openings to catch basins to prevent flooding.
J. Grading of all dirt roads.
K. Assisting in street sweeping and catch basin vacuuming.
L. Snow plowing and sanding in the winter.
