COA MONTHLY MEETING
February 12, 2008
MEETING CALLED TO ORDER 1:00 PM
PRESIDING: Mary Alice Martin
Present: Lorraine Lawrence, Ed Nitsch, Mary Alice Martin, Joan Plancon, Roy Benson, and Director Jeanne Margarites.
Absent: Herb Pace, Harriet Fischer, and Associate member Mary Jane Connolly.
Minutes: Reviewed and accepted.
Bills: Reviewed and signed.
Old Business:
• COA Budget 2009 2/16/08 8:00am to be reviewed.
1. $2,500 new line item to cover newsletter and community publication.
2. Five hours weekly extended for clerical staff.
• The Board of Selectmen are researching through the Community Development Fund, $80,000 to start Senior Center expansion design.
• Tai-Chi Classes – Tuesdays at 11:00AM. A new instructor, Judith Laiuppa of Granby, CT. is teaching the class. Participants enjoy her. All classes are doing well.
New Business:
• Pizza “Leap Year” Party held on February 29, 11:30am for $3.00. Gigi’s on Congamond road is making the pizza.
• Special Town Meeting – Saturday March 15, 10:00am at Powder Mill School. We need to talk this up to seniors and others in town.
• Volunteer Luncheon – Sometime in May. Mary will check at Tuckers and The Cove (formally the Brass Rail) about costs.
• Health Fair – June 9th 9:00am to 12:00pm
• Poker – Played Tuesdays 1:00pm. Ed asked for permission to use chips instead of change. Approved unanimously.
• FRTA – Ed and Ruth are resigning. Jeanne will ask in the Newsletter forvolunteers.
• Tag sale has taken in about $200.00 so far. Will continue until the end of February.
• Joan read letter from Paul Morin, VA representative, thanking for lap robes for Soldiers Home.
