The Southwick Cultural Council supports community-based projects and the activities that promote access, education, diversity, and excellence in the arts, humanities and interpretive sciences to benefit the residents of Southwick. The council is appointed, by the Board of Selectmen, to allocate grants funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. Funding is based on the town census.
Southwick Cultural Council Ninth Annual Arts Exhibition
The members of the Southwick Cultural Council (SCC) announced that plans have been finalized for the 9th annual juried fine art exhibition scheduled for April 12-13 at the Southwick Town Hall. The show will open each day at 10:00 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m.
Over 35 talented artists from Northern Connecticut and Western Massachusetts will display art in the form of oils, photography, watercolors, pastels, acrylic, wood, pottery, basketry, and many others.
The poster art selected for the 2008 show is entitled "Red Mill Reflection," an oil painting by Richard Nowak of Westfield, MA.
The show will include a garden railroad display by Dean Sleeper of Southwick, Massachusetts. The Southwick Historical Commission will display photos of old tombs and headstones from the Southwick Cemetery with accompanying story boards. Also, student art (K-12) in all forms will be available for viewing.
Additionally, Sophie Dickinson, a harpist from Westfield will perform both days from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m.
