College Hwy Reconstruction Update
March 20, 2012
Road widening began Monday, March 19. It will start at Valvoline Express and head south to the Feeding Hills Rd intersection, then will turn around and head back north on the other side. It is estimated this will take about 2 weeks.
It is possible that a detour at Powder Mill Rd will be utilized for a couple of days when they are in the intersection.

Paving of these areas will commence early April, duration: 2 or 3 days. (detour possible)
Then granite curb work will begin in these areas with less impact on traffic.

November 23, 2011
The project has progressed through the center over the hill to the intersection of Granville Road & Depot Street. They are redoing drains on the lower part of Granville Road and tying into the new main drainage system on College Highway. Again, due to the traffic flow through this area you will experience minimum delays but it appears that vehicles are moving smoothly.

Palmer Paving supervisor has stated that they want to complete the drainage part of the project this year which could be done by Christmas.

September 25, 2011
Recently, the project has progressed through the center just south of Feeding Hills Road (Rte 57) moving up the hill. There is presently still a detour for westbound vehicles at the intersection of Feeding Hills Rd. & Powder Mill Rd. and hopefully will be opened up as soon as they are done working on Feeding Hills Road.

Due to the traffic flow through this area you will experience minimum delays but it appears that vehicles are moving smoothly. The Town of Southwick recently erected three (3) large signs informing the public that the local businesses are still open during this construction period and they will have access to those businesses.
At a recent meeting with local businessmen we were informed that Palmer Paving was hoping to complete the drainage line and culverts that started on Tannery Road and ends just south of the Town Hall by the time they shut down for the winter.

Verizon’s part of the project is to move 64 telephone poles through the center but there has not been a set date as to when that is to begin.

August 18, 2011
State contractor, Palmer Paving plans to begin required drainage work southbound on College Hwy in the area of Tannery Road starting Monday, August 22nd or Tuesday, August 23rd. Minor unexpected delays may occur.
