The Southwick Public Library will host three career/business workshops presented by Library Trustee Chair Mike McMahon during May. They include a Career Search Workshop set for Wednesday, May 7; a Business Research and Information Workshop set for Monday, May 12; and a Business Recordkeeping Workshop set for Monday, May 19. All workshops are free and open to adults, and will be held in the library's Community Room from 10-11:30 a.m.
The Career Search session will answer the question: "How do you find out at little or no cost what some of the jobs are that may interest you? " The interactive session will note a number of sources including books, websites, and other resources available to determine skills and interests, and will give participants the tools and information needed to continue the search from home.
The Business Research and Information session will answer several questions pertinent to financial literacy or management training. Participants will explore some of the sources of information, websites, etc. to provide information on where to find information like how many senior citizens live in Southwick, the size of the workforce in the local market, and the unemployment rate. Participants will have a firm grasp of the sources of this information, and may then conduct research for their business.
The Business Recordkeeping session will answer questions of particular interest to starting a small business, or related to managing one's business better. It will discuss some possible solutions including providing a computerized software package to 1-2 participants. However, it will not discuss the how-to's of a particular software solution. Also, the workshop will examine what information system a business now has, and what information it is not providing that may help it to operate more effectively.
