Town officials have requested that the library submit their FY’13 budget to them by December 11, 2011, and that there be sums reflecting a level budget (same as FY’12), a 5% decreased budget, and a 10% decreased budget. Even complying with the town’s level funding request would place the library out of compliance with Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners’ (MBLC) requirements and thereby cause it to request a waiver of the Municipal Appropriation Requirement in order to protect patron borrowing privileges and interlibrary loan privileges. Noncompliance may also jeopardize state money coming to the library.
Therefore, Library Director Anne Murray, and the library’s Board of Trustees are developing a budget that meets state stipulations, and satisfies its educational and recreational lifelong learning goals while being mindful of the town’s limited resources.
